Intl 420 Class National Championship 2005

DAY 3 - REPORT

Finally, on the third day of racing the sailors got what they wanted. Enough wind to get on the wire and stay there! No more Tea-Bagging, No more hot drifting matches just the pure exhilaration of sailing a 420.

The boats were in their element, zipping across the water with the competitors steering hard and working the sails to squeeze every bit of power that they could from the wind.

The conditions may have changed but what didn't was Sanjeev Chauhan & Rajesh Dhulaji's (INWTC) brilliance on the water. They won all three of the day's races to clinch the National title with a race to spare. His closest rivals Ayaz Sheikh & Sandeep Jain (AYN) could only manage 2 second places and 1 third place today. The 2nd & 3rd places overall will be decided after the final race tomorrow.

One could see the difference in the co-ordination and drill of the Chauhan-Dhulaji pair. They were devastatingly fast, yet calm, clinical and efficient in their maneuvers. Is this what winning does for you or is that why they are winning! I guess even they cannot answer that, but it was there, nonetheless for all to see.

Among the Juniors the Prasad Shelar & Deepak Nalla (INWTC) duo blew the competition out of the water and have won the Junior title with a race to spare. They managed a 2nd and 4th place today to end Dillip Nalla's challenge.

Tomorrow's race holds the promise of a keen contest for overall rankings however and with the wind showing signs of increasing further, we can look forward to some exciting action on the water.
